Firstly, when you are selecting tiles always remember they are a long-term fixture in your home, so choose the ones you really want and are most appropriate for your home. If you are saving money or paying a little extra the right decision pays for itself, just remember they will be there for some time.

It is essential when choosing Tiles to also reflect on what these options will mean from both an aesthetic and a maintenance perspective. Consider your lifestyle as well as other factors, such as kids and pets, to make sure you are choosing the right tile for your home and your family.

A Tile can be a practical and elegant way to replace the old carpet in your new home or to increase your old house’s value. It tends to be easier to maintain than hardwood and lasts longer than carpet. Not all tiles are suitable for all rooms, however, so you will need to consider a variety of factors before you buy your Tiles.

  1. Think about the size of tile you want. For a spacious room, large tiles is usually a good choice, smaller tiles can make a large room look busy and choppy, while larger tiles can contribute to the open feeling of the space. if you can fit three or more tiles across the room opt for the bigger size as it helps make the room look bigger.
  1. Take into consideration the amount you can spend but always remember to add the cost of fitting the tiles. Use the square footage of the room to calculate approximate tiling costs. Knowing roughly how much you are willing to spend on tile and what tiles will fit your budget can help you stay focused in the store and resist the temptations of very expensive options.
  1. Ask yourself how much foot traffic the room gets. Always choose a porcelain tile for rooms with heavy traffic like the Hall, kitchen and living room. Ceramic tiles are ok for bathrooms as you have less traffic.
  1. Assess the danger of slipping on the tile in the room. If people are likely to walk through in wet shoes, run across the room or spill liquids on the floor, choose a textured tile. If you intend to put a rug on top of the tile or slipping is not a concern for other reasons, choose a smooth, glossy tile.
  1. Always keep in mind that the lighting in a showroom or shop will be different to yours at home and natural lighting always makes a difference too. Sometimes the interior and colours in your home can make a tile colour look different than you remember it in the shop. Always take home a sample to make sure it suits your home.
  1. When you take samples home lay them out on the floor and consider which look suits the space the best. In general, lighter tiles make a space feel brighter and larger, while darker tiles make it feel cosier and quieter. Select a tile that matches your aesthetic and coordinates well with the walls, fixtures, and furniture in the room.

People tend to paint their walls and change their furniture quicker than changing the tiles in their home, so when choosing your tile consider the cost over time and spend the money on the tile you love as it covers a large area of your home.
